Our Company History

1985 First Retail Location in Duluth, GA

May 17th, 1985, Donny Phillips opened doors to his first location, "Atlanta Carpets". where he built the foundation for Atlanta Flooring Design Centers. In one year he quickly developed an amazing reputation within the residential, main street commercial markets, and the local community of Duluth.

1986 Second Retail Location in Duluth, GA

As the company grew swiftly, he expanded the business further in the following year. He opened a second location in Proctor Square, allowing easier access to on-site material storage and delivery. This gave way to hiring the company's second and third employees, one Alan Franks- who is still actively selling flooring with us over 35 years later. The company grew, expanding into new markets to service both commercial contractors and custom builders.

1990 Third Retail Location in Duluth, GA

With the company developing, so did the location and Donny decided to upgrade once again. He began construction of a new location featuring an expanded showroom for new product line displays. Along with more warehouse space for products while featuring their first loading dock - making it more efficient to unload items. By then, business grew beyond Gwinnett and into the Metro-Atlanta region.

1997 Partnering with Southern Rug & Carpet Gallery & Frank Winter in Cumming, GA

In 2001, Donny Phillips (left) and Frank Winter (right) met and worked together on several successful projects, leading to his decision to form his partnership with Frank and The Southern Rug & Carpet Gallery. As the two partners continued to grow and benefit each other, the business flourished even further.

2001 Becoming Atlanta Flooring Design Centers Inc.

Following a successful partnership between Atlanta Carpet and Southern Rug & Carpet Company, Donny & Frank decided to merge the two businesses into the currently existing Atlanta Flooring Design Centers. Towards the early 2000s, a new approach to the flooring industry emerged and opened the way to Retail, Commercial, and Custom Builder Sales.

2007 Corporate Headquarters Suwanee, GA

As they continued to grow, Atlanta Flooring Design Centers moved to their current location in Suwanee and served as a homebase to achor the multiple locations. Here had the proper office and warehouse space to lead the way for the opportunities ahead. This building opened the door for more areas along the Southeast to grow and call home.

2009 Builder / Commercial Branches in Charlotte, NC & 2011 Birmingham, AL

Horizons were broadened and Atlanta Flooring reached North Carolina & Alabama to open their first Builder and Commercial Branches.

2014 Builder / Commercial Branch in Raleigh Durham, NC

2015 Purchase of Chattanooga Flooring Center in Chattanooga, TN

In 2015, Atlanta Flooring Design Centers bought Chattanooga Flooring Center, only 28 miles from the "Flooring Capital of the World". Chattanooga Flooring Center is one of the top flooring retailers in the Tennessee area.

2016 Opened Builder Branch Charleston, SC

2017 Opened Builder Branch in Myrtle Beach, SC

2018 Addition of Builder Division Warehousing 3660 Swiftwater Park Dr

In 2018, the addition of a new branch and warehouse for our builder division.

2019 Opened Builder Branch, Opelika, AL

2021 Addition of the Flooring Attic Outlet in Buford, GA & Builder Branch Penesacola, FL

As inventory and partnerships with other manufacturers were growing, we decided to move our outlet from the Suwanee location to a larger location in Buford. This new space allowed us to better serve our customers and make the cash and carry process much easier.
